    Interspersed among the studies and sketches in the numerous sketchbooks I've kept for over nearly 40 years are a host of jottings, observations and reflections on my journey as an artist and teacher. Most of them are ungrammatical phrasings that arose spontaneously. All of them were attempts to fix ideas that arose in action, before they fled.
    Remarks to students:
    • See the serendipity in limitation. Work with what is possible within self-imposed limits.
    • The rudiments of the pictorial language - a way to see beyond and beneath the apparent isolation of things.
